Sinners y Santos
Sinners y Santos, a cathedral-inspired nightlife venue with DJs and immersive performances, pays homage to El Santo, the revered Mexican luchador and folk hero whose career reached its apex in the 1950s and ‘60s. The space is conceived as an abandoned 19th-century cathedral that has been converted into a clandestine wrestling theater.
Guests enter through a confessional, where they must admit their sins to gain admission. Once inside, they encounter a space featuring walls lined in Venetian plaster with patches of the original brick peeking out from underneath, as well as wrought iron chandeliers and sconces and distressed oak millwork. The massive Gothic millwork and stained-glass bar is surrounded by dripping prayer candles, their saints cheekily clad in Lucha Libre wrestling masks. An ornate tin ceiling accentuates the soaring ceiling height, and a DJ booth disguised as a pipe organ emits light and smoke. The perimeter of the club’s two rooms is ringed with cozy banquettes nestled under arched, barrel-vaulted ceilings. Surprise performances take place throughout the evening, in particular a choreographed show by masked acrobats on a wrestling ring that descends from the ceiling above the oversized bar in the center of the room.
