Waterside Hotel
The Waterside Hotel sits proudly on the northwest corner of King and Flinders Streets, Melbourne. The first hotel and public bar on this site opened in 1853, serving as a meeting place for new arrivals to the colony and the many workers from the adjacent wharves. Until the nearby wharves closed in the 1960s, The Waterside Hotel served as the primary watering hole and meeting place for blue collar workers who helped build the City of Melbourne. Sand Hill Road is presently in the middle of a comprehensive redevelopment of these historic buildings. The project will preserve the 1925 façade while reimagining the interior, excavating a basement, and adding three new stories adorned with cascading garden terraces that reach toward the sky. This transformation will create a world-class hospitality venue that offers broad range of activities and helps cement the ongoing gentrification of Melbourne’s west end. The Ground Floor and Public Bar will serve as the initial point of access for all visitors, who will then have a choice to settle in or be transported away to the lush green terraces above, offering new and exciting experiences and as before unseen views of Melbourne
